Hiiii!
This week, I was going write about comfort food and why that trend is existing so heartily right now. And why I find the sentiment sweet, and also somehow deeply futile etc. But then I was like… literally… let’s have FUN! Sometimes, after some critical dwellings on the nature of our corporeal world through the lens of consumption, it’s nice to have a gentle little time. So here’s a little HIT OR NOT HIT for this, the sprouting of summer :)
^one of my fave posters, Hockney for the 1972 Munich Olympics. The serenity of diving in, after all.
HIT
-It’s fennel season! I always find that it brings some wonderful levity. I want it in everything! But actually, I only want it in teas or tiny beautiful digestive candies .
-still rewatching all of RHONY with my bf… it truly is holding up! Dorinda just made her intro, so here we goooo. It’s crazy to think about how Aviva got married at Le Cirque and also threw her leg there. Talk about being a regular!
-“American Teenager” by Ethel Cain omg. Walking around the city listening to this song is one of the best gifts God has given me. Whole record is perfect.
-Ok if you know me, you know that I can really spend many minutes and hours talking about seasonality in relationship to Traditional Chinese Medicine, quoting and re-quoting my acupuncturist/teacher who I am obsessed with. However, I am always learning and *not* formally trained and have found the FiveSeasonsTCM Instagram to be a splendid resource by those who formally are.
-Went to the beach for the inaugural beach moment the other weekend. The water was cold and at first I was hesitant to really go in. However, I forced myself and wow it’s amazing how you never regret dunking! I also still have sand in my sneakers, which I weirdly.. find very endearing.
-Have begun to swear by Coconut Electrolit… love a new favorite drink!
-Sometimes strangers like to tell me things. I am learning to set better boundaries lol however! The other day, a gentle stranger asked me what I did and I told them, and they said that cooking is special because the magic floats up to the Gods and Ancestors and we get to enjoy what remains here on earth :) and that opportunity comes to those who persist in their dreams :) I said, “Here’s hoping!”
-and finally IT’S A CULTURE AND PINKBERRY SUMMER, B*TCHES! U can quote me.
NOT HIT
-took myself for a mani as a treat. Was told that my nails were limp :/
-felt weird walking down the street, realized I was dressed like a member of Rajneeshpuram
-why do I like this Rx bar so much? It actually is weird to me. It ends up in my teeth, but I keep coming back…
-Accidentally said “be well!” to someone. Felt like a parody of myself.
-BIG BAG DAY – big bags are back, but you know those days when you’re carrying a giant tote? And then you end up putting workout clothes in it, and then also your book just in case, and then two notebooks, and your laptop and charger? And then maybe you buy an art book so you end up creating some personal hell for yourself and you can really only use your right shoulder because it feels somehow unsustainable on your left? And buried at the veryyyy bottom are your keys and your mask which you truly need and also sunscreen that you’re afraid will explode under this gravity?? Big bag days do not hit, everyone!
-Existential early summer malaise and agita. One imagines the intensity of this part of the year is like this, but I find it to be a little bit like this . Can you believe this little person’s name is Panic Pete? Seems cruel.
-Usually I don’t think it’s possible to listen to too much Lana Del Rey, no matter the season. She is my true favorite. However. I’m sad to report that for the moment… I’ve officially overdone “Summertime Sadness”. :’(
-I moved the other day and it was very hot out! So hot that our Haribo peaches melted. That’s kind of a Hit, because it looked so cool. But it was sadly a Not Hit, because actually melted gummies will not taste good no matter how hard you try to think that maybe they will. Just not the same.
Anyway, I hope that everyone is doing great! And that your gummies stay structurally intact and that your bags feel small enough to fit your body <3
HIT OR NOT HIT
YES!! i love this hit or not hit series so much so much <3
would you possibly consider making them a regular thing... :0
