The air quality is bad, and everyone is freaking out. As they should be!
The first time I saw smoke like this was driving down to Joshua Tree in 2020. I remember putting my foot in the window of the Prius, feeling like something mystical was happening.
It was mystical, but in a way that portended an apocolyptic chaos. Still, the very bad beauty of it all stuck with me.
The air quality in NYC today is moderate, so hopefully the clouds are passing, for now at least.
Still, here are some things I feel CUT THROUGH THE SMOKE:
-literally… episode 1 of my favorite show Mad Men: “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”. Lots about perception. Also just that amazing feeling where you know a show for so long and watch the first episode and it feels a little corny and earnest.
-also, “She’s A Rainbow” by the Rolling Stones. it helps!
-Yesterday, I went to yoga and we did a handstand with legs up the wall and it actually felt so good. No smoke when you’re literally upside down! have someone help or spot you, or put their feet on your shoulders, please :)
-if smoke renders an opacity, what transcends? Clarity.
Also — in my brain - opposite of smoke? FRESH STUFF. Hydration!
The clouds are hopefully on their way. In the meantime, you HAVE to watch Queer Ultimatum and tell me what you think. Mandatory!! Thank you xo
